Three GRC Tech Trends for 2017

Governance, risk management, and compliance constantly evolve, and 2017 will bring new challenges causing GRC professionals to race to keep up with the pace of change.

Some of the most interesting trends for 2017 appear, not surprisingly, to be in the area of technology.  GRC solutions experts have been running ragged to keep up with the curveballs new technologies and applications can provide (the use of personal smartphones and devices in the office, cloud computing solutions, and more).

The pace will not slacken soon, these trends will keep GRC professionals up at night:

  • GRC applications for mobile devices will be more tightly integrated into operating systems. This parallels a larger trend that has more of the functions currently performed by apps taken on smart agents and virtual personal assistants. GRC software vendors will create micro services that tie software more tightly together and create a better user experience.
  • Another trend is that Big Data will get even bigger. The software that allows the gathering and analysis of this data are providing GRC professionals with great new tools, but the sheer volume of information may be overwhelming. Companies have to find the right platforms for finding the right data and organizing it to make it useful.
  • GRC professionals can also expect to focus more on social media, as reducing risks posed by social media becomes increasingly important to compliance, particularly in sensitive industries such as healthcare.
  • Organizations that export client data to the Cloud have to ensure they comply with privacy regulations. This further complicates the tasks of CCO especially if data localization issues are at stake, such as with EU regulations.
